A switch has a single-broadcast domain.

So, VLAN is basically used to overcome switch to broadcast is information to other switch connected to it.

VLAN means a switch inside a switch. A switch can only communicate to the same VLAN.

 

Whereas, Subnetting is totally a different thing and used to conserve our IP. After applying subnetting we can only communicate within the range of subnet-mask.
