Why do we use ip addresses instead of Mac addresses for communication? As Mac addresses are also unique as ip.?
Hello,
Mac-address is just like your name and IP address is related to your location. And it is easy to deliver something to your location as compare to your name. Because we don't have any mechanism to know that where does your name exist.
Same in case of Networking. Mac-address is a physical address, which is unique because it is hardcoded on NIC card. We don't know about every mac-address in this world beacuse it is assigned by the manufactures of NIC card and we don't have any mechanism that how to reach each mac-address. But IP address is assigned by ISP and their routers know that where does every network exist. So it is easy to make routing or communicate on the basis of IP address as compare to mac-address.
Hope it helps.
Thanks
