Hello Keshav,

Since VLAN trunking Protocol is used to propagate VLAN information throughout the switch domain through trunk links. It has also become a hazard that broadcast from one switch is transmitted to all the switches even though they are not intended to receive the broadcast.

So, in order to avoid unwanted flooding of traffic through those trunk links where it is not necessary, VTP pruning is a process which blocks such traffic from being sent through the trunk links which saves a lot of bandwidth.

As far as the difference between v1 and v2 is concerned, VTP V2 is not much different than VTP V1. The major difference is that VTP V2 introduces support for Token Ring VLANs. If you use Token Ring VLANs, you must enable VTP V2.

I Hope it helped, Please feel free to ask.

Thanks
